Dr. Elsa S. Canales M.D.

Dr. Elsa S. Canales is board certified in Gastroentrology and Internal Medicine. She obtained her BA from the University of Texas at Austin and received her MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Gastroenterology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Canales joined Dr. Monte D. Allen in 2004 and together they formed Gastroenterology Consultants of Laredo.

Dr. Canales’ clinical interests include gastroenterolgy and hepatology. Her training includes colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), enteroscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), flexible sigmoidoscopy, liver biopsy, paracentesis, video capsule endoscopy and hemorrhoidal ligation.

Dr. Canales has been involved in numerous clinical research projects including studies regarding Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Adult and Pediatric Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and Ulcerative Proctitis.

Dr. Canales is Board Certified in Gastroenterology by The American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

Dr. Canales enjoys spending time with her husband, four children and family and friends. She loves traveling the country and cooking.

Dr. Alfredo Camero Jr

Dr. Alfredo Camero Jr. is a native of Laredo and graduated from Alexander High School. After high school, Dr. Camero attended Texas A&M University where he majored in biomedical science. Afterward, he attended UT Health San Antonio for medical school where he graduated with honors including admission into both Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Camero is board certified in Gastroenterology by The American Board of Internal Medicine.

He completed his internal medicine training from 2012-2015 at UT Health San Antonio where he worked at both University Hospital and the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital. He was invited to be a chief resident from 2015-2016. Choosing to specialize in gastroenterology, he then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio from 2016-2019, where he served as chief fellow during his last year of training.

Dr. Camero’s clinical interests include endoscopy and colonoscopy, colon cancer screening, esophageal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis management, and more.

Dr. Camero is credentialed at Laredo Digestive Health Center, Laredo Medical Center, and Doctors Hospital of Laredo.

Dr. Anthony R. Galan M.D.

Dr Anthony Galan is a Cum Laude Graduate from Pedro Henriquez Urena National University ( UNPHU ) School of Medicine in Dominican Republic. Upon graduation, he received the Dominican University Foundation Award and Medal, given to one Medical Graduate only. He was born in Puerto Rico, but was raised by his parents in DR, before his post graduate education and training.

He completed his Internal Medicine Residency in The Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Fellowships in Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy, at Allegheny University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr Galan clinical interests include Colorectal Cancer Screening and Colonoscopy, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Upper Endoscopy, Pancreatobiliary disorders and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography ( ERCP ), and any Gastroenterology and Hepatology disorder.

Dr Galan has been involved in publications in peer-reviewed journals, together with internationally recognized gastroenterologists. He was previously Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine by American Board of Internal Medicine ( ABIM ), and is currently Certified in Gastroenterology by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons ( NBPAS ).

Dr Galan is a member of the prestigious Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association ( AGA ), American College of Gastroenterology ( ACG ), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy ( ASGE ) and Texas Medical Association ( TMA ).

Besides his dedication to Medicine and his patients, Dr Galan has spent years of Social Service, presiding and leading different non profit organizations in Dominican Republic. He is married with 3 children, all raised and educated in Laredo, Texas, where he has lived for almost two decades.
